What is a Meta agency ad account?
A Meta agency ad account is an ad account owned by an agency partner and shared with an advertiser through Business Manager. It carries the agency's spend history and partner standing, which usually means higher spend limits, faster ad review and a direct support path.
The short definition
A self-serve ad account is created by you, starts with no history and is trusted by Meta accordingly. An agency ad account already exists inside an established agency business that has spent millions through Meta. When that account is shared into your Business Manager, you inherit its standing rather than building your own from zero.
Key facts at a glance
| Who owns the account | The agency partner; it is shared into your Business Manager |
|---|---|
| Who runs the campaigns | You, from your own Ads Manager interface |
| Typical setup time | Under 24 hours |
| Spend limits | Elevated compared with a new self-serve account |
| Billing | Prepaid credit line — top up $700, receive $1,000 in spend |
| If the account is restricted | Same-day replacement with balance transferred |
How the setup actually works
1. You share your Business Manager ID and the page and pixel you want to use. 2. The agency provisions an ad account and shares it into your Business Manager. 3. You accept the share, connect your page and pixel, and the account appears in your normal Ads Manager. 4. You top up the credit balance and launch. Nothing about campaign structure, creative or targeting changes — only the account underneath.
Who they are for
Agency accounts make sense once ad spend is consistent enough that downtime is expensive: media buyers running client budgets, DTC brands past the testing phase, affiliates and lead-gen operators in verticals that attract extra review. They are overkill for someone spending a few dollars a day on a first campaign.
What they are not
An agency account is not a way to run policy-violating ads. Meta's advertising policies still apply and prohibited content still gets rejected. What changes is the tolerance for borderline-but-compliant offers, the speed of review, and having a human to escalate to when something is flagged incorrectly.
